Newsletter - 27th June 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians

“Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your spirit and there will be a new creation and you will renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray:

We pray for the children in our school who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, that their hearts will be filled by the light of the Holy Spirit and guide them through their life journey giving them: Spirit of wisdom, courage, counsel, understanding, goodness, knowledge and unity.

Confirmation will be held at Corpus Christi Church on Thursday 16 June, commencing at 7:00pm. Family and friends of those being confirmed are very welcome to attend.

School Photo Day:

School Photo day ran very smoothly last week due to the parents and children coming early in the morning for Family photos and the assistance given by parents with ensuring the children were ready for their photos. Many thanks to all parents who were available to come and assist on the photo days.

Corpus Christi Catholic School – 80th Anniversary Celebrations:

Next week, on Monday 30 May, we will commence celebrations for the 80th Anniversary of Corpus Christi Catholic School.

The students and staff will enjoy a sausage sizzle and Birthday Cake on Monday.

On Wednesday 1 June, the students will enjoy participating in House group activities – all day, attend a whole school Mass at 12:00 noon and enjoy eating lunch with their buddies.

On Friday 3 June, there will be a Kinder - Grade 6 Assembly at 9:00am and Open Day from 11:30am - 1:00pm.

All parents, grandparents, past pupils and past teachers are welcome to attend Open Day.

Kindergarten 2017:

First round offers for Kindergarten 2017 have been posted and are to be returned to the school office by no later than Monday 30 May.

Parking Reminder:

Pick up and drop off points for students are at the turning circle in Bignell Street and the lower car park near the church where parents/grandparents/guardians can drop off and pick up their children before and after school. The staff car park is not a drop off and pick up point for parents/grandparents/guardians, it is only to be used by parents and visitors when a Disabled parking spot is required. The bus lane is used after school to pick children up and needs to be clear of any other traffic. Thank you for your understanding.

Catholic Education Cyber Awareness Week

This week (23 May), Corpus Christi Catholic School will be participating in Catholic Cyber Awareness Week. We will welcome Senior Constable Stephen Rose, who will be giving a cyber safety presentation to students in Grades 3-6.

To support our teaching during cyber awareness week we encourage families to have a discussion at home.  You may like to choose one or more of the following topics:

• Do you have any online contacts whom you’ve never met in person?

• What helped you decide that it was okay to add them?

• How certain can you be that they are who they say they are?

• Are you familiar with the block and report functions of the apps, games and social media sites you use?

• Who do you think is more likely to upset you online, someone you know or a complete stranger?

• How would you respond if a friend of a friend asked you an inappropriate question online?

• What would you do if you accidentally came across inappropriate content online?

• Who are five people you could talk to if something upset you or made you feel uncomfortable online?

• Why do you think cyberbullying makes the news?

• Who do you think is more affected by cyberbullying, adults or young people?

• If a friend told you they were being cyberbullied what would you do?

All families are encouraged to visit the e-safety website https://www.esafety.gov.au  and think you know website http://thinkuknow.org.au/
